Sunday stills: Pets

Another year rolls by and Sunday stills is still going strong.
As usual for this subject I do not post pictures of my own pets since you can see them on a lot of them, but rather other peoples pets.

First is Walter. Walter is my good friend Jo's cat. Walter is a very special kitty because he is blind. The ever kind hearted Jo rescued him from her work where as a kitten he had suffered damage to his body by ingesting steel dust and chemicals from the factory she works at. He is completely blind, you can even do the wave test if you don't believe it. Remarkably you can play with him just like any other cat. He has outstanding hearing and smell. I played with him with a string and it floored me how he could hear where that string had hit the ground and would nail it with a paw every time. He listens for the sound of your fingers rubbing together to tell him where you are and to come get pets. He smells you before you even extend your hand. If you watch him you can see how he strains to locate where you are by moving his head to hear sounds better and sniffing the air to locate you. It's an amazing thing what the other senses can compensate for when one is missing.

This is my friend Tammy's cat Dexter. Yes, he was named after the Dexter on the show Dexter. Dexter was rescued as a week old kitten when his mother abandoned him and his siblings. He was the only one who survived. He is a very handsome tabby. He is also just that, a tabby. He will tolerate about two or three pets before he growls. He had some serious cattitude which usually warrants me mauling him with love until he gets fed up and runs away to growl out of the reach of my petting hands AKA: under the dinner table. Cattitude.

This is Simba, a purebred english lab. Hes the definition of exuberant let me tell you. I can handle a 1000+ pound horse but when it comes to four golden labs I was lying face down on my back being rolled on, licked, pawed and slobbered in what I can guess was 2.5 seconds after I let the last one out of the kennel.

If you want to see any of my pets just take a gander through my blog. They pop up here and there and everywhere. If you haven't today hug a cat, especially if they are not wanting to be mauled with love and hugs. Chances are they were already planning to kill you in your sleep anyway.

So are you a cat or a dog person? Why?

Great pictures and stories to go along with them!

Dog person... I guess because of their loyalty and devotion... yep, I'm one of those people that needs constant reassurance. :)

I love Walter's story. He has neat markings, usually there is white around the muzzle.
I'm both a dog and cat person, I guess I just have enough love to go around! Good thing, because I have 4 cats and 3 dogs.

All the pictures are great but my heart belongs to Simba. He's so cute.

I don't know why but I'm a dog person. I just like them better and get along with them easier than cats.We always had cats as kids and I don't think I was too thrilled when they brought home dead "presents" for us. Or watching them torture a mouse they had caught before killing them.

Walter is my fave. I just love an orange cat. I've never had one but I always thought if I did, I'd name it Marmalade.

I'm neither. I love cats and dogs equally, for their own special attributes.

I'm more of a CAT person.
I like the fact they need- you- not, and sometimes a bit more aloof. They seem to proove you out and allow you to be near them.(not always)

I love Walter...he looks to be a smaller version of our Freyda! And Dexter..I do watch, is A lovely Tabby cat. I have always thought the Tabby to be closest to wild cats..our Mike Madison Cat...17 American Shorthair Tabby was very much the way you described Dex. When you're time was up with him...you could loose a hand if you pressed it!

I knew a Simba too...big ol lab. I love all your friend's animals!

Great shots and story. I'm a dog person, unconditional love and affection although our cat thinks he is a dog and almost acts like one.

I love Walter's story. That is absolutely amazing. I am a dog, cat and horse person. I think I like them pretty much equally, but right now we only have the horses and a kitty. Our country makes traveling so difficult with dogs. Ugh. Makes me crazy really.

I had a yellow Lab named Simba a couple of years ago. I'm a dog person, because I'm severely allergic to cats.

Poor Walter, but he is a very lucky kitty indeed, to end up in a good home! I'm both a cat and dog person...and horses LOL I prefer dogs to cats when dealing with other people's critters, though. But I do love my own kitties.

That Dexter is looking pretty comfortable is he as nice as he looks. You had me laughing about the labs, I could just picture you on the ground being mobbed.

Awwww I love Walter! He is so cute! I think it is so amazing how they can adapt for loss of eye sight. They're amazing animals.

I admire cats, especially big cats (lions, tigers, cheetahs), but I'm definitely a dog person. I don't like most cats' independent, indifferent natures. If they don't appear to want to be around me, why would I want to be around them? However there are some cats that I adore, because they are super friendly and love to cuddle and play. :) Big orange males are my favorite actually. :D
