Day two: the miracle cure!

I just love, LOVE, LOOOOOVE this stuff called Arnica.

I lied, I am gonna post a picture of my shovel face on here. Though it doesn't even look bad.

See arnica stops swelling. It works every time. I don't know what the hell I would do without it. I have a bottle in the barn. Any time you have aches, pains, bruising, use it. It works. I'll guarantee you it's not a waste of money. Speeds healing. See for yourself I took this just a few hours ago, more than 24 hours after I had my face re-arranged. My nose is a little off to the left.

I am squinting in this picture because I had a bright desk lamp pointed at me to get a decent picture in my room. Note my bitchin' new hat as my friend calls it. I had to have it after I wore it around a store on Sunday.

My nose doesn't hurt unless I smack it off something. I have allergies, my nose is itchy. This isn't going to go over well.

Oh I forgot to mention my mom has severe rhumatoid arthritis. She introduced me to Arnica. It's the only thing that helps her and shes on some 1000$ a shot once a week medicine that does less. Thank goodness for pension coverage.

So this post, anyone who has horses or injuries get arnica. If it can fix my face, it can fix your bruises and swellings.

Thanks for the very helpful reminder. I had forgotten about Arnica. I actually have a bottle of it in one of my bathroom drawers.

Off to hobble in there to din it now.

I meant to type 'find' not din. My wrist is already very stiff and sore, so having trouble typing.

Great tip, I've never heard of it used this way. Where did you get it? Hope you are feeling better....the hat is cool! ;-)

Along with everyone else, where did you get it? Could come in handy someday!

Most drug stores have it. I get it at shoppers drug mart but they are a Canadian drug store so try a CVS or rightaid. I get this brand because it's the only one available here at the store. You might have to ask for it behind the counter because I have had to before. Just ask for arnica gel and they will know what you are talking about.

Hi Sydney,

Just found you through your comment on Mikey's blog, the Horseshoeing Housewife.

I've only read a few of your posts, but I think you are a breath of fresh air... so refreshing to read something so astute from so young a person. I'm older than your dad, but don't judge me by my age: I grew up on Metallica, Led Zep, etc.

I don't know much about horses yet, but am intrigued by the bitless bridle. I've always wondered why a bit was needed if Ayla (from the novel "Clan of the Cave Bear) could ride and control her horse without any reins at all.

Well, I'm getting boring now... so only one more thing: Arnica also comes as a liquid and a cream.

Sincerely,

Mike: Thanks. My dad also listens to everything I do. Hes 54? or 55 this year lol I can't remember.

A bit is not necessary. It's just a false safety net for those who do not put the time and effort into training and a relationship with a horse.
Remember, ghengis khan refined, and used a bit. We also believed in those days the world was flat. I believe it's time for a change on how we ask our horses to do things for us.

I have tried all sorts of different topical arnica things. The gel worked the best for how it was absorbed into the skin and the immediate cooling effect was nice with the gel. It evaporates off after it's been absorbed and doesn't leave residue like the cremes do.

You can also get it in pill form but I am not sure how that would work compared to putting it right on the spot.

The wife: Look good now, I got an appointment with the specialist on Monday I may have to have re-constructive surgery for my nasal passages.

Just popped back over down here and saw your comment about the pill form of arnica. I've been taking the pill form for several months, and after my most recent fall and can attest to it working well. I took 5 itty bitty pellets (30C) every half hour for 2 hours, for the first day, and then 5 pellets 3 times a day. I noticed a difference by the second day in my pain level/stiffness and swelling.
